Free MIDI Packs
Most free MIDI packs are a zip of a few hundred files you have to dig through. This page works the other way round: every melody and chord loop below plays in your browser first, with its tempo and length on the card, so you only download the MIDI you like. Downloads are free with a Melody Generator account and never count against your monthly downloads.
Each loop is a take from Melody Generator's AI, made from the prompt on its card. Make more like this writes four new takes in the same style from that prompt. For chords with names and numerals, see the R&B chord progressions and minor chord progressions.
Free trap MIDI melodies and chords
Bells, flutes, harp and plucks at 140 to 145 bpm, plus a dark chord loop to build under them. For more trap chords, see the minor chord progressions for trap and drill.
R&B MIDI melodies and chords
A pluck lead and a simple guitar line at 76 and 78 bpm. The R&B chord progressions page has chord loops with the chord names on every card.
Lo-fi MIDI: chill chords and melodies
Electric piano melodies and mellow chords at 78 to 85 bpm, ready for vinyl crackle and a lazy drum loop.
Piano MIDI for hip hop and rap
Piano loops at 82 to 90 bpm, from boom bap to emotional rap. More slow loops live on the sad chord progressions page.
Dark MIDI melodies and chords
A dark guitar line and a haunting flute at 76 and 78 bpm, for dark beats and intros.
How to use these in your DAW
- FL Studio: drag the .mid file onto a channel in the Channel Rack. Open the piano roll to flip the melody or change notes.
- Ableton Live: drop the file on a MIDI track to make a clip, then load any instrument on that track.
- Logic Pro: drag the file into the tracks area and Logic adds a software instrument track for it.
Set your project tempo to the bpm on the card before you drop the file in. Every file is a 4 or 8 bar loop, so it repeats cleanly.
Questions
What is a MIDI pack?
A set of MIDI files, usually melodies, chord progressions or drum patterns, that you load into your DAW and play with your own sounds. MIDI is notes, not audio, so you can change the key, the tempo, the notes and the instrument.
Where can I get free MIDI files?
Right here. Every loop on this page downloads as a free MIDI file with a Melody Generator account. The R&B, minor and sad chord progressions pages have more, and the app writes new ones from a text prompt.
Are these MIDI files really free?
Yes. You need a free account to download, and demo files like these never use up your monthly downloads. The free plan also gives you 10 generations a day to make your own.
How do I use a MIDI pack in FL Studio?
Drag a .mid file onto a channel in the Channel Rack and the notes show up in its piano roll. Pick any instrument for that channel, set the project tempo to the bpm on the card, and the loop is ready to build on. In Ableton Live or Logic Pro, drag the file onto a MIDI track instead.
What are MIDI loops?
Short MIDI files, usually 4 or 8 bars long, that repeat cleanly when you loop them. Every file on this page is a loop like that, so you can drop one in and build a beat around it.
Can I make my own MIDI pack?
Yes. Type what you want into Melody Generator, like "dark trap melody, 140 bpm", and its AI writes four takes. Keep the ones you like, download them, and you have a pack built around your own ideas.
Want chord names too? See the R&B chord progressions, the minor chord progressions and the sad chord progressions, or read how text to MIDI works.
